Can I substitute a different kind of liqueur for bourbon when making Southern Ice Tea?
For those of you that don't know, Southern Ice Tea usually consists of sweet tea, mint julip syrup, and bourbon. When I got home tonight after a particularly difficult night at work, I went ahead and mixed the tea and the mint syrup, but then I found that I was out of bourbon AND scotch. I do have some plain rum, Malibu rum, and Amaretto. Would any of those work? I know it wouldn't be the same as what I was going to make, but would any of those taste alright with the tea and the syrup already mixed?
Also, would I have to use a different amount? I usually do about 6oz of tea, 2tsp's of syrup, and 1oz or so of bourbon.
I'd add the rum with a splash of Amaretto. Sounds good.
