here is my question.i think that calzaghe has been protected his whole career.i also feel like he runs from everyone.If calzaghe loses to roy jones jr will you still try to defend him as a legend???now before you start huffing and puffing i know that the fight hasn't happened but just for thought.if calzaghe loses how will you defend him as the great joe calzaghe.because the only great and 2 were not so great fighters he has beat were lacy,kessler and 43 year old hopkins.how do you defend him as not a guy who ran and ran until he got caught.

Calzaghe had a deal to fight Hopkins in 2002, it fell through because Hopkins wanted a bigger purse and didn't see Calzaghe as a big enough name at the time.

Calzaghe offered Pavlik out after he pasted Jeff Lacy, Pavlik refused. After Pavlik beat Taylor (first fight), the Calzaghe camp approached Pavlik again, he refused to fight Joe.
If the ref would have stopped the fight when Pavlik was in trouble in round 2 against Taylor, nobody would be talking about him now. It's funny how people say Calzaghe is a coward etc and fights past-it fighters but behind the scenes he has always pushed for the big fights. Calzaghe in the past was a victim of his own secrecy, a quiet man from the Welsh valleys. Step in the shoes of the top American fighters: "This is a very dangerous fighter that no-one has heard of over here, is it worth the risk?" Of course not, what's the point when they can fight there famous fellow countrymen and save a bit of face if they lose?
